So this afternoon, I thought it might be fun to set a pretty table for an "al fresco" meal overlooking the water for me and my hubby...this probably doesn't sound that crazy to most of you, but I live in FLORIDA and it's AUGUST, so we don't do this alot in the summer...because it's 100+ degrees most of the time. Oh well...
So I selected a simple but rustic burlap-look table cloth, with a white linen runner. I used rustic woven chargers and my blue and white Spode plates.
For my centerpiece, I used a glass hurricane vase in a woven holder and filled it with sand, seashells and a candle.
I also used white roses in a simple mason jar and a few pieces of coral and conch.
A favorite seashell bowl holds a few fresh green apples. I love the rustic elegant look of this late summer tablescape...now all I have to do is decide what to fix for dinner!!
...make everyday special...kristy

What a pretty cottage by the sea! Everything is so fresh and lovely, calming and relaxing too!
I am inspired by the use of white and soft colors, and the way you used seashells in unusual ways to create such a beachy feel. We are rebuilding, and your look is something I am going for in our new revived home.
Rhoda sent me, so glad she did!

Hi, Kristy! No...I don't think it's crazy that you and hubby don't do a lot in the Florida summer heat. We here in the Midwest have had the most brutal summer, so we can totally concur with that!!! Beautiful setting, and what a great view you have!

No alfresco dining here either in the summer. I'm eager for fall evenings so we can dine on the terrace. Looks like you have a lovely view of the water.

Hi! I've just discovered your blog, and I've spent much of the afternoon reading some of your older posts - I love your home, and I love your table setting - I'm a huge fan of blue & white dinnerware.
We don't do much outdoor dining here in north Texas during summer, either - who wants to eat outside when it's 105 degrees, right?

Please look on the bottom of your plates and see if it gives the name of pattern and manufacturer. They are beautiful and look very similar to the antique set of dishes I have from my dear MIL.
I've noticed several woven serving pieces in your pictures..chargers, also a neat tray in your Taco night pictures, and the hurricane glass vase..and in one of your pictures that were taken in front of a mirror maybe on a buffet, with lots of shells, etc. Mind sharing where you might have purchased these pieces? I like them and love baskets.
If you ever go to Calabash, NC, be sure to stop at Callahan's..they have a lot of decorative items suitable for coastal living.

Hello Betty- thank you for visiting starfish cottage and for all of your wonderful comments. The woven pieces are from Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma. The woven basket hurricane vase is from BallardDesigns, though I have seen them atHomegoods as well. Hope this helps! Kristy
