OK, so our new Powder Room may take the award for the most bland bathroom I have ever seen...everything was "vanilla" and "bland" and "builder grade"...
Before:
Wouldn't you agree?
The powder room of my dreams would have a new pedastal sink or vanity, new lighting, new faucet, wallpaper or beadboard on the walls...BUT my budget simply doesn't allow for any of this right now. Sooo, in the meantime, I decided to paint the walls a rich mushroom color, which will accent all the white trim and mouldings...
(**Disclaimer: The photographs that follow are not my best...I haven't learned the best way to photograph a dark room with no windows yet!)
I have always LOVED dark richly colored walls, but because my house is so light and airy, it never made sense...but my new little powder room with no windows was a perfect spot! Suddenly, all the "vanilla" finishes look fabulous on the dark walls- contrast is key!
Crisp white towels look terrific (I need to have a monogram added!) I used many of my vintage framed seashell studies and coastal accessories...
I like this little black shelf above the commode- the black accents look great on this dark mushroom wall color too!
I am really enjoying having my antique map of Sanibel Island in here too!
A white orchid...my favorite!
The finishing touch will be a white linen sink skirt...I will totally be covering up the ugly vanity cabinet, so I will be sure to share photos when it gets here and show you how I did it, so stay tuned...

Kristy...oh my goodness such a huge difference....wonderful "face-lift" if you will. I also have a center of the home bath....no windows and was considering the exact color "a cocoa" and a rich white....guess what no more considering I am going to do it. Thanks for sharing....Karen at acapecodnest.............Nest in Peace.
