This Summer, Take a "Stay-cation"!

This year, why not take the money you usually spend on a summer vacation and invest it in your own home- that way you can enjoy a special "getaway" everyday!  Here are some tips on how to turn
your home into a first-class resort...

1. Take inspiration from from one of your favorite vacation destinations. 

Maybe it's a tropical island or a cozy cabin retreat, or a contemporary big city, or an elaborate European hotel- wherever you like to vacation, take inspiration and re-create the look in your own home!

 

2. Turn your Master Bedroom into a fabulous "hotel" suite.
Just like your favorite resort, stock your bedroom full of luxurious
hotel amenities like high thread count sheets, a comfy goose down duvet,
black-out lined draperies, a beautiful desk, sitting area, lighting, and
artwork.

 

3. Turn your Master Bathroom into a luxurious "spa" oasis-

 

Along with gorgeous cabinets, sinks, faucets, lighting, and tile, be sure to have a generous supply of fluffy white towels, beautiful soaps, lotions and toiletries; as well as a cozy bathrobe.  A lovely framed mirror will dress up any  bathroom.

4. Incorporate special items from your travels-

Display mementos from your favorite places throughout your home such as seashells, sand,
artwork, photography, authentic textiles, pottery,and tableware.  These will add interest to your home AND remind you of a favorite trip.

 

 

5. Decorate with the colors from your favorite place-

Cool blues and greens of the Caribbean, the rich earth tones of Tuscany- whatever look you are going for- use these colors on walls, upholstery, draperies, pillows, this will create an
instant connection between your home and your favorite spot. Why not take a little time and money to invest in your home this summer, so you can enjoy a beautiful vacation EVERYDAY- no crowded airports, jet lag, or lost luggage- just wake up and you
are there!

We take "staycations" most years - we don't have money in the budget to get away - if we do get away, we put gas in the car, and drive to my mother-in-law's home in Indiana, or her place in Florida. I'd rather put money into my house, or into savings.

Our son got a 4 week trip to Australia this year because his grandparents paid for him to visit - there was no way we could have afforded that kind of trip.

Having moved from the desert of AZ to the coast in Orange Co. CA, I just feel like I'm constantly on vacation, knowing I can be at the beach in less than 30 minutes.

That and the fact that my home is a tribute to blue.
